Should I perform Hajj or take care of responsibilities?

Question:

Assalamoalykum

Question Related To Hajj

Last year my dad died. The total responsibility of business and home has come onto me… Alhamdulillah I’m not afraid of it because Allah Swt is there…

I have two small brothers (17Yrs)

Hajj is Farz on me…I know that

But as a big brother, having total responsibility is on me…

I can’t leave the responsibility and perform…

Mom is saying that you and your wife plan for Hajj, but my my BROTHERS are small, still studying and I still have responsibility …

I am very confused now… I need help ..

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, if a free, sane Muslim male has enough funds to perform Hajj over and above the expenses of to fulfil his family’s needs[1], then Hajj becomes compulsory immediately.[2] You should perform Hajj at the first opportunity. Consider the following hadith:

Ali narrated that:

The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever has the provisions and the means to convey him to Allah’s House and he does not perform Hajj, then it does not matter if he dies as a Jew or a Christian. That is because Allah said in His Book: ‘And Hajj to the House is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, for whomever is able to bear the journey.’

An alternative for the business would be appointing someone you trust as a manager to run the business in your absence.
