Question: Wukuf time?
Answer:
Assalamuwalaykum,
There are 2 Wuqoof that take place:
1. Wuqoof of Arafah – This is on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah where one is to stay in Arafah and is a Fard and can not be missed or else the Hajj will be invalid (see details below)
2. Wuqoof of Muzdalifah – This is on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah where one is to stay till Fajr in Muzdalifa, this is a Wajib and if missed will require a Dam (sacrifice)
Wuqoof-e-Arafah (Fard)
Takes place on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah and time starts from:
Zawal (when the sun has passed its meridian) which is the time of Dhuhr
If you are in Arafah at this time then you should pray you Dhuhr and Asr salah in Arafah
In the late afternoon, one should stand in the open and raise your hands in supplication to Allah, as the Prophet ﷺ had done, facing the (Qibla) Kaaba. It is recommended to do the Wuquf (standing) at the foot of Jabal Ar-Rahmah (the Mount of Mercy), and if it is to difficult to go to Jabal Ar-Rahmah then you can stand outside your tent and supplicate to Allah. Continue to do this till the time for Maghrib comes in as mentioned in Muslim the hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah:
‘Rasulullah (ﷺ) continued on until he came to Arafah and he found that the tent had been pitched for him at Namirah. There he got down until the sun had passed its meridian; he commanded that al-Qaswa’ be brought and saddled for him, then he came to the bottom of the valley, and addressed the people with the well-known sermon Khutbat al-Wada (the Farewell Sermon). Then the Adhan was pronounced and later on the Iqamah and the Prophet led the Dhuhr (noon) prayer. Then another Iqamah was pronounced and the Prophet led the Asr (afternoon) prayer and he observed no other prayer in between the two. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then mounted his camel and came to the place where he was to stay. He made his she-camel, al-Qaswa turn towards the rocky side, with the pedestrian path lying in front of him. He faced the Qiblah, and stood there until the sunset, and the yellow light diminished somewhat, and the disc of the sun totally disappeared.

Muzdalifa
When the time of Maghrib has come and the disc of the sun has disappeared then you should proceed to Muzdalifa where you will stay the night till Fajr (knowns as Wuqoof Muzdalifa). While in Muzdalifa you will combine your Maghrib and Isha Salah as mentioned in a hadith in Bukhari narrated by Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari:
Narrated Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari: Rasulullah (ﷺ) offered the Maghrib and `Isha’ prayers together at Muzdalifah.
[Bukhari]
The prayers will be offered with one Athan and separate Iqamahs:
Abdullah bin Malik narrated: Ibn Umar prayed at Jam (Muzdalifah), so he combined two prayers with the Iqamah, and he said: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) doing the same as this at the place.
[Tirmidhi]
Once you have prayer your Maghrib and Isha in Muzdalifa your should then collect your stones. Depending on the number of days you plan to stay in Mina you will need to collect either 49 or 70 stones:
You need to collect a total of 49 pebbles to perform Rami over the next three days. The breakdown is as follows:
10th of Dhul Hijjah – 7 stones
11th of Dhul Hijjah – 21 stones
12th of Dhul Hijjah – 21 stones (you can depart on this day if you would like following the pelting of the stones)
13th of Dhul Hijjah – 21 stones
Wuqoof of Muzdalifa
In the morning you will pray Salatul Fajr in Muzdalifa, then after the prayer you should stand facing the Qibla (Kaaba), raising your hands and supplicate to Allah (ﷺ).
Please remember to make Dua for all of us whilst in Hajj especially when you are in Wuqoof.
**Tip – Make sure you prepare a list of Dua’s and people you want to make Dua for when you go to Mina on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah and be prepared for the 9th and 10th of Dhul Hijjah
Remember to supplicate for our beloved Prophet ﷺ his companions and predecessors. Yourself, your family (close and far), the Ummah, removal of suffering and hardship upon the Ummah, those that have passed away, and those that will come after us.
I hope the above explains the two Wuqoof one which is Fard (Wuqoof of Arafah) and the other that is Wajib (Wuqoof of Muzdalifa).
And Allah Knows Best
